Sue Whitehead – Director

Sue Whitehead – Director
We say: Sue has over 25 years’ international travel industry experience in both the public and private sectors and is a Fellow of the Institute of Travel & Tourism. Before co-founding Hume Whitehead, Sue was Regional Director Europe, Middle East & Africa for the Hong Kong Tourism Board, achieving a record-breaking 2 million arrivals over a 12 month period.

As Marketing Director of two of the UK’s largest hotel groups, she ran award-winning communications campaigns and developed major new brands. Whilst with the world-renowned Orient Express organisation, Sue directed the global launch of the Eastern & Oriental Express service in Singapore.

Sue says: I love the challenge of finding just the right solution for clients with very different business objectives.

You may not know: Sue used to work at the Foreign Office and was once offered a job at Buckingham Palace working for the Prince and Princess of Wales

Richard Hume – Director

Richard Hume – Director
We say: Richard’s travel industry career began in tour operating, including five years with TUI UK where he achieved record results for the award-winning Magic of Italy programme and successfully launched the Magic Collection.

Richard then moved to Tourism Authority of Thailand as UK Director of Marketing and PR, delivering record visitors and receiving several industry awards. Following the tsunami in 2004 he became a regular industry and media spokesperson on crisis management issues.

In 2006 Richard joined the Hong Kong Tourism Board as Director, Northern Europe & Middle East, delivering over 600,000 UK visitors to Hong Kong for the first time ever. HKTB was voted Best Asia Pacific Tourist Board in the 2007 British Travel Awards under Richard’s stewardship. He co-founded Hume Whitehead with Sue Whitehead in 2007 and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Travel & Tourism

Richard says: I love the variety of my work. I get a real buzz from winning new clients, but I am most proud of the relationship we have with all our clients – and the results we achieve together.

You may not know that: Richard has lived in both Niger and the Cote d’Ivoire.

If Richard didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… he’d love to be a ski instructor, living in the French Alpes or the Pyrenees

Lesley Wright – Sales and Marketing Director

Lesley Wright - Sales and Marketing Director
We say: Lesley’s love of travel was cemented after a year of travelling through Asia, Australasia and North America, and she now has over 20 years’ experience in the industry.

Starting her travel career at Thomas Cook, Lesley subsequently moved into student travel, holding the role of Marketing Design & Production Manager for usit CAMPUS, before moving agency side to work on a range of clients, including Virgin Atlantic

A brief move away from the industry confirmed that travel was her passion and in 2005 Lesley joined Travel Indochina, the Asia specialist tour operator and DMC. Having started as Business Development Manager, Lesley was promoted to International Sales & Marketing Manager before assuming overall responsibility for the UK office in 2014 when she became General Manager. Her tenure in this role saw her oversee the tour operator’s successful rebrand to Insider Journeys as well as its strongest financial year performance.

Lesley joined the Hume Whitehead team in 2016 as their Sales & Marketing Director, where she works closely with the trade on partnership marketing and sales campaigns.

Lesley says: I have a passion for travel and the destinations I represent. I love working with our clients and the industry to get messages to market, delivering results and inspiring others to travel.

You may not know that: Lesley knows her allium from her agapanthus. She spent 3 years working as a florist.

If Lesley didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… you would find her hanging out at an orangutan sanctuary.

Cat Cambridge – PR Account Director

Cat Cambridge
We say: After graduating from Southampton Solent University with a BA (Hons) degree in Journalism in 2008, Cat decided to follow a career in PR, which has given her a wealth of knowledge and experience in all areas of communication.

Having worked with a number of big household brands, including Coca Cola, IKEA, Polaroid, Diageo and Wrigley, Cat is used to tackling challenges head on and takes pride in delivering results that drive business objectives. Her key highlights include; managing a nationwide series of customer events for IKEA, managing PR and social campaigns for a range of clients, creating headline-grabbing PR stunts for Diet Coke and running successful press days and events for clients, such as Polaroid, Warburtons and Costa.

After working her way up the ranks at a number of FMCG, consumer and retail-focussed PR and marketing agencies, Cat got a taste for hospitality and travel, when she took over managing the press office for Travelodge. Having first-hand experience and behind-the-scenes access to the UK’s largest independent hotel chain proved a turning point in her career.

Having caught the travelling and hospitality bug during her time at Travelodge, Cat joined the Hume Whitehead team in April 2017, and now oversees the PR function.

You may not know: Cat, like her namesake, is crazy about cats and has a mischievous pair at home called Bill and Ted.

Cat says: I really love what I do. Not only is every day different, but I also get a buzz from a job well done.

If Cat  didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… … She would write a novel.

Enrique Martin – Junior Account Manager

Enrique Martin – Account Executive
We say: Shortly after completing a degree in Journalism at the University of Seville, in his native Spain, Enrique worked as a press officer at the International University of Andalusia and as a journalist for a Spanish digital newspaper.

His interest in PR brought him to the UK where he achieved an MA in Communications Management from London Metropolitan University and worked in the BBC press office on one of the UK’s most popular TV shows, Eastenders.   He then joined a London-based communications consultancy before moving on to the popular social networking site, Badoo.com, where he was immersed in all aspects of digital public relations and social media.

Completely fluent in both Spanish and English, and confident speaking French and Portuguese, Enrique’s experience in both PR and journalism gives him a great understanding on how to get to the crux of a good story.

At Hume Whitehead, Enrique works on the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, Macao Government Tourism Office, Adrian Hoteles and Lisbon accounts, as well providing support for other clients. He’s known in the office for his superb linguistic skills and social media expertise.

Enrique says: What I most enjoy about my job is conversing with journalists and the diversity of the role, not a single day is the same!

You may not know: As a child, Enrique used to sing in a well-known choir at Seville’s Cathedral.

If Enrique didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… he would while away his time in social networks!

Sarah Wilkinson – Junior Account Manager

Sarah Wilkinson
We say: Making a difficult choice between traveling the world and further education, Sarah studied for a BA (Hons) degree in Communication and Media at her dream media school, graduating from Bournemouth University in 2011.

After gaining invaluable experience in the professional workplace, Sarah decided to combine her passion for travel with her knowledge of the industry and quickly settled in at a boutique travel PR agency, representing a range of UK and International travel partners.

Sarah’s love of travel has seen her move from her home town of Leicester to the famed city of Oxford and to the Hume Whitehead team, bringing with her not only a breadth of experience, but also a true passion for travel.

Sarah says: I get a real buzz from working in the travel industry. Each client brings with it new challenges, new opportunities, a real sense of accomplishment and – perhaps most importantly – genuine friendships.

You may not know: Sarah used to work for a niche engineering company and has a real passion for the motorsports industry.

If Sarah didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… … she’d spend her days travelling the world, one Formula One race at a time.

Sandra Kwan

Sandra Kwan
We say: Sandra has almost 15 years of travel industry experience in both a commercial and non-commercial capacity. Her key skills lie in building strong travel trade relationships, brand promotion, marketing, training and events. Her previous experiences include the Travel Channel and Travel Deals Direct, lastminute.com and most recently the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

At the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Sandra successfully promoted and increased awareness of Hong Kong as a leisure destination to the travel trade and helped to increase visitor arrivals despite a poor economic climate. She delivered effective joint marketing activities with tour operators, airlines and hotels, conducted Hong Kong training to UK sales teams, organised fam trips, managed and participated in trade events and exhibitions and most importantly built a great rapport with the trade.

During her tenure at Travel Deals Direct (TDD), Sandra secured weekly travel offers to promote on air to a wide TV audience – these deals were exclusive to TDD, a similar format to the flash sales as seen online nowadays. At lastminute.com, Sandra led a team of Account Managers to deliver competitive holiday deals to the customer online. She maintained strong relationships with 3rd party holiday suppliers and maximised override income for the organisation.

Sandra says: I am passionate about travel and it is fascinating to learn about different cultures. Travel keeps me motivated and I dream to see most of the world before I get too old!

You may not know: Besides her love of travel, Sandra enjoys cooking and food in general along with a bit of thrill seeking such as skydiving, parachute jumping and zip lining at the Gibbon Experience in Laos!

If Sandra didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… …….she’d love to open up a simple business down by the sea!

Sarah Hanson

Sarah Hanson
We say: Sarah has over 15 years’ experience working in the travel and leisure industry. She started her travel career at accommodation and attraction ticket provider Seligo before moving to London where she worked for The Tussaud’s Group promoting the London Eye, Madame Tussaud’s and UK theme parks.

Sarah made the move into destination marketing and PR in 2003 working on some major US accounts including NYC & Company and Hawaii Tourism. She worked as an Account Director for an advertising agency and was responsible for delivering Jersey Tourism’s extensive advertising campaign. Sarah has recently moved back into working on USA accounts including Experience Kissimmee and Discover Illinois.

At Hume Whitehead, Sarah is responsible for travel trade sales and marketing for the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism.

Sarah says:I love working in travel and enjoy the variety of interesting people that I come into contact with. I like getting my teeth stuck into projects and seeing the results as they unfold.

You may not know: Sarah’s love of big cats has seen her travel to see them in the wild in Africa and in India where she was lucky enough to see 2 tigers in one day.

If Sarah didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… She’d like to do a big road trip from the north of Canada, through the USA, Central America ending in the southern-most tip of South America. She’d also like to run an animal sanctuary.

Cristina Cunchillos

Cristina Cunchillos
We say: Cristina moved to the UK nearly 20 years ago, after graduating in journalism in her native Spain. Here, she developed her career in public relations and marketing, working for several London-based communications agencies.

While her versatility has taken her to manage successful campaigns for clients as diverse as PricewaterhouseCoopers and Lego, it is in the tourism industry where she has thrived and built up valuable experience and contacts. She has run PR and representation campaigns for the Central America Tourism Agency and the Valencia Region Tourist Board, generating widespread media coverage and helping attract more visitors to these destinations.

She has also worked for other destinations such as Scotland and Lisbon, as well as tour operators, hotels, theme parks and other tourism-related businesses. She now supports the Tenerife Tourism Corporation team at Hume Whitehead.

Cristina says: I love writing and the challenge of finding new angles to sell a story to the media.

You may not know: she was a qualified umpire for the regional Athletics Federation of Aragon in Spain.

If Cristina didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… she would love to work as a tour guide in London.

Lisa Stewart

Lisa Stewart
We say: Lisa has an MA in International Relations from Nottingham University and has since accumulated 10 years’ experience as a senior sales and marketing professional within the corporate and MICE markets.  In 2004, she joined Firebird in New York City as a Consultant International Director of Sales & Marketing, and in 2007 she became an elected board member of the Jersey Conference Bureau. She has senior sales and marketing experience with hotel groups such as Handpicked Hotels, Le Meridian, Radisson SAS, Intercontinental Hotel Group and Malmaison and for destinations such as New York, Las Vegas and Texas within the MICE industry.  At Hume Whitehead she manages  MICE sales and marketing for the Berlin Convention Office and Tristar Worldwide accounts.

Lisa says: I really emphasise face to face contact in my work, which I feel enables me to identify and work successfully with partners at all industry levels.

You may not know: Lisa once spent a year as a cowgirl in Colorado and is currently training for base camp Everest in September.

If Lisa didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… She would own and run a cattle ranch!

Tom Panagos

Tom Panagos
We say: After finishing law school in his native Athens, Tom left the sunshine of Greece for the UK to complete a master’s degree in public relations. He worked with well-established names such as BBC Worldwide before moving to London and for the best part of the last decade he has specialised in travel PR, representing destinations from all over the world.

Tom joined Hume Whitehead in spring 2015 and brings dedication and passion for his work, mixed with some laid back Mediterranean vibes of course! His background helps him relate to customers who are not based in the UK and explain the idiosyncrasies of the British media landscape.

Tom says: Working in this industry it is impossible not to get the travel bug. It’s a real eye opener and I take advantage of every opportunity to do something different, whether that is glacier trekking in Patagonia or flying on a hot air balloon over Napa Valley. I am lucky enough to have travelled to all continents – except for Antarctica (but you never know, I might one day)!

You may not know: Tom does have the recipe for the perfect moussaka but he only makes it once a year as it takes forever and a day to cook!

If Tom didn’t work at Hume Whitehead… … he’d finally get down to finishing the book that he started writing years ago!
